The Governing Council of the Gambia University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET), under the leadership of its Chairperson, Engr. Ebrima Cham, on Saturday 24th January 2026, bade farewell to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Ambassador Jainaba Jagne, during a Council Meeting at the Brikama Campus. Ambassador Jagne, who is imminently retiring from government service, was hailed for her invaluable contributions and support rendered to USET, as well as during deliberations at Council sessions.

The Chairperson described her as a champion of trust, hope and support, as she endeavored tirelessly toward the realization of the transformation agenda of USET. Members equally expressed satisfaction with the significant contributions the PS has made to the tertiary sector reform in The Gambia, and indicated that her absence will greatly be felt. At this juncture, the Chairperson assigned the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), Mr. Louie Moses Mendy, to lead members in praying for Ambassador Jagne’s personal wellbeing and progress in her future endeavors.

Ambassador Jagne in turn appreciated members of the Governing Council for standing by her side during her tenure in office, as well as recognizing the part she played in this sector. She begged for forgiveness if she has offended anyone, or if she inadvertently failed to accomplish any of her obligations. She revealed that she has no regret whatsoever for working with the Governing Council, and assured everyone that her doors will always remain open should her expertise is needed. She appealed for members to support the incoming PS, who is a sister to her so as to help her discharge her duties accordingly. Finally, members gathered for group pictures with Ambassador Jagne to serve as a form of remembrance.
