The Gambia University of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology (USET) welcomed a high‑level delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), Prof. Pierre Gomez, accompanied by representatives from the World Bank. The purpose of the courtesy visit was to assess ongoing institutional development, review the utilization of donor‑funded laboratory equipment, and observe how students are engaging with modern technologies to address the technical skills gap in The Gambia.
The visit commenced with a formal engagement between the delegation and USET management. Dr. Mansal, Chief Director of Operations and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the University’s development trajectory. He outlined how USET’s curricula are intentionally designed to tackle youth unemployment by prioritizing applied sciences, mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering, and civil engineering. He also introduced new academic programs scheduled for rollout as part of USET’s expansion strategy.
Following the briefing, the delegation embarked on a guided tour of the University’s core technological laboratories. The Minister and World Bank representatives observed live demonstrations conducted by students, who confidently executed experiments, operated technical machinery, and ran advanced software programs. The delegation expressed satisfaction with the level of student engagement and the effective use of modern equipment.
The courtesy visit concluded on a positive note, serving as a strong endorsement of USET’s progress and its growing role in strengthening The Gambia’s technical and engineering capacity.
