The University of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology (USET) evolved from the former Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI) as part of efforts to revitalise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). A key component of this transformation is the Science, Technology, and Engineering for Entrepreneurship (STEE) Center, which plays a pivotal role in advancing applied research, innovation, and professional skills development.
Operating under USET as part of the Emerging Centre of Excellence on Science, Engineering, and Technology for Entrepreneurship (ECESETE), STEE focuses on addressing critical development challenges such as industrialisation, digital transformation (ICT), energy systems, renewable energy, and manufacturing. Through top-tier short courses, applied research, and industry collaboration, the centre aims to equip students with internationally competitive skills while fostering entrepreneurship and job creation.
This initiative is part of the World Bank Africa Centers of Excellence (ACE) for Development Impact Project, funded by the World Bank in close partnership with The Gambia Government. STEE will also collaborate with institutions such as Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana, and De Montfort University (DMU), UK, to enhance faculty training, scientific research, and technology development.
By bridging the gap between academia and industry, STEE and ECESETE will contribute significantly to The Gambia's socio-economic growth, strengthening the national innovation system and reducing reliance on foreign expertise in key engineering and technology disciplines.
To be a leader in engineering education, industrial advancement, and digital transformation in The Gambia and the region, driving excellence in education, research, and innovation for the benefit of industry and society.
