The Gambia University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET) wishes to clarify that there is no student crisis at the University, contrary to rumours circulating on social media. The atmosphere across all USET campuses, including regional outreach centres, remains calm and conducive to learning.
Students enrolled under the KNUST-USET collaboration as part of the Africa Higher Education Centres of Excellence (ACE) Impact Project, funded by the World Bank, are assured that all pending lectures from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will be delivered. USET, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) and the World Bank, is finalising arrangements with KNUST to ensure timely completion of the lectures.
USET has met with students from the second cohort on three occasions to explain the situation and next steps. The University reiterates its commitment to ensuring that all students in both cohorts successfully complete their programmes. It is important to note that all students are benefiting from Government of The Gambia scholarships, awarded through MoHERST.
In a significant milestone, USET is preparing to host its first-ever convocation ceremony on 21st June 2025. This historic event will celebrate graduates from the College of Science and Engineering (CoSE), the Institute of Technology (IoT), and the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE). The convocation will coincide with the official commissioning of the newly constructed CoSE building, which is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to support hands-on learning and innovation.
USET remains committed to delivering quality, uninterrupted education in a supportive and transparent environment. The public is therefore advised to disregard false information and rumours.
For any inquiries or clarifications, the University and MoHERST maintain an open-door policy and are always available to engage with stakeholders in a candid and transparent manner.
Sincerely,
Alieu B Saine
