The USET Students’ Union is delighted to share that three outstanding Final Year Mechanical Engineering students—all female—from the USET College of Science and Engineering have triumphed at the Youth Innovation Pitching Competition, securing a grant of USD 10,000 to launch their engineering-based startup.
This remarkable achievement underscores the excellence, resilience, and ingenuity of female engineers excelling in a traditionally male-dominated field. Through determination and technical expertise, these students have not only brought honour to USET but have also spotlighted the role of women in engineering and youth-led innovation in The Gambia.
Organized under the Agirc-Based Solution Youth and Young Innovators initiative, the competition provided a platform for young minds to present practical, impactful solutions to pressing real-world challenges. The winning project embodies strong engineering principles, entrepreneurial vision, and a deep commitment to national development.
We extend heartfelt appreciation to UNDP, the People of Japan, the Government of The Gambia, and all stakeholders for their continued investment in youth empowerment, innovation, and sustainable development. Your support is shaping the future of Gambian innovators and driving inclusive progress.
The USET Students’ Union remains steadfast in its mission to champion academic excellence, foster innovation, and promote gender inclusion across all fields of study.
