
The Vice-Chancellor of The Gambia University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET), Engr Prof. Nazmat T. Surajudeen-Bakinde paid a strategic courtesy visit to the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority (NAQAA) under the leadership of Dr. Momodou Lamin Tarro, the Chief Executive Officer of NAQAA, on Friday, 27th March 2026 at 10:00 AM. In attendance during the meeting was Professor Abubakar M. Kundiri, who is a Technical Assistant at NAQAA from Nigeria. The visit formed part of ongoing institutional efforts to reinforce academic quality standards, strengthen collaboration, and advance the University’s developmental agenda.
During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor engaged the leadership and technical team of NAQAA in constructive discussions centered on the accreditation of USET’s academic programmes. Emphasis was placed on ensuring that all courses meet national and international benchmarks, thereby enhancing the credibility, employability, and global competitiveness of USET graduates.
A key highlight of the engagement was the discussion on the forthcoming USET Convocation Ceremony. The Vice-Chancellor briefed NAQAA on preparations underway and underscored the importance of the event as a milestone in the University’s academic journey. Both parties reaffirmed the need for compliance with regulatory standards in the conferment of degrees and other academic qualifications.
The meeting also addressed matters relating to the Gambia Standards and Quality (GSQ) framework, with particular focus on aligning USET’s academic and operational systems with national quality assurance protocols. This alignment is expected to further strengthen institutional governance, teaching excellence, and research output.
In addition, discussions covered other critical issues affecting the University, including continuous quality improvement mechanisms, programme expansion, and the enhancement of academic infrastructure. The Vice-Chancellor reiterated USET’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of education and fostering a culture of excellence across all faculties and departments.
