The International Trade Centre has reinforced its commitment to skills development in The Gambia with a significant equipment donation to the Gambia University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology Kanilai Skills Training Centre (USET-KSTC).
Speaking at the official handover ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of USET expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the university’s Governing Council, Senate, management, staff, and students. The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) notably the Honourable Minister, the Permanent Secretary, and other senior officials alongside government officials and development partners.
The Vice-Chancellor described the donation as more than just a contribution of tools and machinery. Instead, it represents a strategic investment in the future of Gambian youth and the growth of technical and vocational education. According to the remarks, the equipment will play a transformative role in equipping students with hands-on, industry relevant skills needed for national development and global competitiveness.
Special recognition was also given to MoHERST for its continued leadership and dedication to advancing higher education and skills training across the country. The ministry’s ongoing support has been instrumental in strengthening institutions like USET and expanding opportunities for young people.
Reaffirming the university’s commitment, the Vice-Chancellor assured partners that the equipment would be used responsibly and maintained effectively to ensure long-term impact. The goal, she emphasized, is to sustain a high standard of training that will benefit not only current students but future generations as well.
The ceremony concluded with renewed appreciation to both the International Trade Centre and MoHERST for their invaluable support in advancing applied science and technology education in The Gambia.
